We had a wonderful year at the Flour Barn Bakery! We met so many new people while also growing our relationships with our regulars and had a blast with all our new classes. Who knew how much people wanted to know about Sourdough bread? Summer was such a busy time, and we added more seating outside for all our lovely customers to sit on the patio and we enjoyed watching all the little ones play in the front yard. We also held a Christmas Gift Basket Bar at French Hen Farm, and the experience was so festive! Our connection to our community has grown and continues to be what we look forward to each and every Saturday. But we have so much more still to come…
Back to our Roots- Scheiderer Farms Greenhouse
Our bakery is located on our family farm that is split between our Dad, Todd, and his brother Keith. Interesting fact: my dad’s brother also happens to be married to my mom’s sister, Candi…we promise it is all legal. For over twenty years our uncle and aunt have run a very busy garden center, Scheiderer Farms, that feels like an escape as soon as you walk in. As children we would take many walks across the fields to our cousins, exploring the plants and playing hide and seek amongst the mulch bags. In many ways their success as small business owners gave us the confidence four years ago to make the same leap into entrepreneurship.
Bakeries and Greenhouses do not naturally find themselves in a partnership, but we have been brainstorming as to how we can work on some projects together. This year we have debuted our first Container Herb Class: Creating, Caring For and Cooking with Fresh Herbs. This felt like the perfect way to partner with our family while also sharing a topic we are passionate about. This class will start with Keith and Candi teaching the class how to prepare their herb gardens while allowing the class to “pick their brains” on all things herbs. Then we will take over and teach our favorite fresh herb recipes that you can then replicate at home when your personal garden becomes bountiful.
We also are planning to park our coffee shop trailer, The Flour Pot, at their greenhouse on occasion. Nothing sounds cozier than wandering through the plants with a fresh scone and latte in hand. Did I mention they also have donkeys?
Coastline Coffee Company
Another partnership we are very excited about is one with a new coffee shop, Coastline Coffee Company. First, we met this mother-daughter duo as customers. And then one day they gave us a call and told us about their amazing idea for a coffee shop. The location they were renovating wasn’t too far so we knew the old bait shop they were talking about, and we could not have been more excited. Originally from California, they turned the old bait shop into a quaint retro coffee shop. Todd even said they make the best Cortado he has ever had! (He is quite the coffee snob…)
Our current plan is to have our Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls there every Friday for customers to enjoy with their coffee.

New Bread Oven in The Flour Barn Bakery
By far the biggest change Ellen and Paige are most excited about is the new bread oven! This new oven is perfect for baking our sourdough bread, whole wheat loaves, focaccia and pizza. Not only will we be using it to sell more bread to our customers, but we have already used it to have a couple family pizza parties:)
New Espresso Machine
I feel like everything I have worked towards leading up to this day has been to be able to afford and justify buying a commercial espresso machine. I am so excited to not only enjoy a latte whenever my heart desires, but also to introduce this new element into our business.
Coffee has always meant something special to us. I don’t know what it is about holding a hot mug in your hand that allows you to feel like you can just take your time. It somehow justifies sitting on the couch or porch and chatting. In many ways, it is how Ellen and I were able to talk our business into existence. Even as young adults I felt like she and I became closer as sisters with each cup we shared. It’s an unexplainable phenomenon. We are excited to share our love of coffee with you and hope that each cup is delicious and gives you a sense of comfort.
The Flour Pot
The question on everyone’s minds, what going on with the coffee trailer?! Many of you have been following along on this exciting journey of turning our old utility trailer into a functioning coffee shop trailer. The purchase of our commercial espresso machine has been the final step in preparing our trailer. We plan to have our trailer running this spring as soon as the weather gets nice. I also mentioned we will be taking it offsite to Scheiderer farms and are exploring other off-site locations.

The Flour Barn Bakery
Even though we are very excited about all these new adventures, our main priority will always be the Flour Barn Bakery Saturday mornings. Our goals remain the same, to provide the community with a bakery where they know every baked good has been baked fresh. We are continuing to create and perfect recipes that we cannot wait to share with you. We hope to only improve the customer experience each Saturday and look forward to welcoming everyone each Saturday morning!
